Young Filipinos—including women—are smoking more tobacco than ever before, says the World Health Organization (WHO) in its latest report. The report issued last December 9, titled “WHO Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic 2009,” covers 179 countries and territories. ALABAMA AND Mississippi are squandering a major opportunity to save lives and reduce health care costs. Both states are failing to fund smoking prevention and cessation programs at the levels recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
