Kate Winslet today finds herself targeted by a German film-maker with a dark tale to tell. Director Bernd Eichinger is all set to make a film about the Austrian kidnap victim Natascha Kampusch – and he wants Winslet to star. According to the Daily Express newspaper, the Oscar-winning actor is Eichinger’s first choice to take the role of Kampusch, who was 10 years old when she was abducted on her way to school. For the optimistic Eichinger, age is clearly just a number, and nationality but a label: English-born Winslet turned 34 last birthday. ... read more >>

In the blue-tinged light of Forks, it’s the same old song. In the first scene released from “Twilight: Eclipse,” Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) lie in bed together discussing the school girl’s possible future as a vampiress. Bella wonders aloud about what she will tell her family while Edward reveals why he would never want the life of a vampire for her. ... read more >>

Old at 58? Never, I’m in the prime of my life!

When I was 17, I went to the cinema to see The Graduate, the splendid film in which the young Dustin Hoffman is seduced by the older woman, Mrs Robinson, played by Anne Bancroft. To my 17-year-old eyes, Mrs Robinson seemed very old indeed. How on earth could anyone possibly find her attractive, I remember thinking. She was ancient! ... read more >>

In the past 40 years, only three bona fide war films have won the top Oscar — 1970’s “Patton,” 1978’s “The Deer Hunter” and 1986’s “Platoon.” ... read more >>

How Danny Huston accidentally became a star
Friday, February 26th, 2010
If you don’t already know whose son Danny Huston is, the fastest way to figure it out is to close your eyes and listen to him speak. The words waft towards you on a breathy cloud, lent colour and character by a detectable lifelong smoking habit (no emphysema like the Old Man had, though, not yet). In a faded American accent that sounds as if it’s been acquired or borrowed or even half-forgotten in exile. ... read more >>
