Nicolas Cage chomps on a cigar as he returns to work days after arrest for ‘assaulting his wife’

It was business at usual for Nicholas Cage today as he returned to work just days after his arrest for domestic abuse, public intoxication and disturbing the peace. The actor was back on the New Orleans set of his forthcoming movie Medallion, looking remarkably relaxed, considering the events of the past few days. Cage, 47, even smoked a cigar as he sat on a deckchair reading a script during a break in filming. ... read more >>

Ban on Cigarettes in India

Films have always had an effect on human behaviour. Movie stars created fashion statements, which the masses followed with excitement and joy. Actors and actresses often made heroes and heroines out of ordinary men and women. On the flip side, cinema had its negative impact on society. Crime and other forms of unacceptable behaviour were picked up from the screen. Habits too. ... read more >>

Chinese Government Curbs Movie Smoking

You may have noticed the MPAA started including smoking on their reasons for a particular rating. The brouhaha surrounding that decision has died down a bit, largely because tobacco use is now twenty percent as offensive to the American public as drunk driving, but in a lot of other countries where smoking is much more prevalent, this is still a hot button issue. No country in the world purchases more cigarettes than China, and after a new study showed Chinese children are more likely to smoke after seeing movie stars do it, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has decided to lay down the law. ... read more >>

Federal health officials have been concerned that such wafting images will influence impressionable adolescent audiences to pick up the habit. After decades of pressure from anti-smoking advocates, the film industry is starting to respond. ... read more >>

Movie Review: ‘The Killer Inside Me’

Michael Winterbottom’s “The Killer Inside Me,” starring Casey Affleck as a small-town deputy sheriff with a big-time psychosis, is little more than torture porn tricked out in art-house finery. That is the bigger crime here. Killers, particularly of the sociopathic strain of Affleck’s Lou Ford, can make for seductive characters. Whether it’s Tommy Lee Jones turn as the seriously bent Gary Gilmore of “The Executioner’s Song” or the sarcastic shot aimed at a media culture in love with violence that Oliver Stone took with his “Natural Born Killers,” we want to understand all that separates us from them. ... read more >>

It’s been two years since the first “Sex and the City” movie – and this shtick is getting old.
