Mohammed Hammoud, the first person convicted on an anti-terror statute aimed at preventing American funding of terror groups, will be in court Wednesday seeking to get out of jail after serving 10 years of a 155-year sentence. Hammoud was convicted in 2002 of fraud, racketeering, and helping to raise money for the Hizbullah terrorist group by running an illegal smuggling and money laundering scheme. 300 shops offered smuggled tobacco

Three hundred corner stores have been offered black-market tobacco to sell, research has revealed. Shop owners claim they will lose on average 175,000 euro this year alone because of the country’s booming smuggling and counterfeiting racket. Imperial Tobacco gives EU $300m to combat cigarette smuggling

The agreement comes hard on the heels of a similar deal involving a $200m contribution from British American Tobacco and means the two biggest UK manufacturers will be providing £375m over a 20-year period to reduce tobacco smuggling.
